A Birthday Party and Weight Loss Update

Well, first of all, I want to say that the owl cupcakes were a hit at the birthday party.  My daughter said she was ready to call off the party because our sweet little birthday girl was having a tantrum about something, and declared it "the worst party ever!" before it even started.
Once the party started all was fine, and she declared it "the best party ever!" at the end of the day.

How many 6 year olds does it take to open 1 present?
I could write a whole post about my daughter's worst birthday party ever...it was a sleepover disaster....but this post is supposed to be about my weight loss attempts.

How am I doing you ask?

I set a goal to get on my elliptical every day....even if it was only 3 minutes, my goal was to start an exercise habit.  EPIC FAIL!  I did it one day.....after that things kept getting in the way or I totally forgot a couple days.  I'm not very happy with myself but I'm not surprised really.  I'm not the athletic type and I don't like to sweat.

One of the comments I received suggested the 5/2 diet.  I have done a little research about it and think it might be worth a try.  The idea is to eat very low calorie (fast) for 2 days out of the week.  The other days you eat normal meals.  I am sure that means healthy and proper portions, not eating 3 cupcakes at a birthday party (which I did).

So the struggle continues.  I need to exercise for heart health reasons.  I am going to try to get some form of exercise every day except Sunday.  I can't do the blasted elliptical everyday.  The plus with it is that it doesn't hurt my bad foot, but I really don't enjoy it.  I can bike ride, I am going to try walking a bit more, and I can do yoga ( as long as I am careful with my foot).

And so it goes......

Til next time,
Peace

  1. Good luck with the exercise program. It is so much easier to do something that you enjoy if you figure out what that is!

  2. I feel your pain. In theory the elliptical is easier on my knee, but it is much harder work. I stick with aiming for my 500 steps a day or getting into the pool. And as my daughter the nutritionist reminds me, execercise is good for health but weight loss is about eighty percent diet.

    1. I'm glad you stopped by Barbara. I agree that diet.....let's just say healthy eating and portion control..... is where I really need to make changes.

  3. Are we sisters or what? I have an exercise bike in our bedroom, but I also detest sweating so I hardly ever ride it. Summers are easy for me because I love to walk at the lake. As for the 5:2 diet, my husband and I do it and L-O-V-E it. He has lost 40 lbs. and kept it off for a year now by fasting one day a week. I lost 33 lbs. In 3 months and then "fell off the wagon" when Mandy and Piper stayed with us last summer during the move to Washington DC. I never started again but kept the 33 off. I plan to begin again in earnest next week when I get home since I have another 25-30 to lose yet. The first couple of weeks are difficult but after that it really isn't hard at all. Seriously. Feel free to ask me any questions and there are several groups on facebook too. It is the easiest way I've ever lost weight and believe me I've tried a lot of ways and never really succeeded. My husband is no longer pre-diabetic and he is off his BP medicine. The health benefits are amazing. I truly think it "resets" your body each week. Can you tell I like it?
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Thanks Betsy. 33 lb in 3 months is amazing! I have several health issues that would be helped with some weight loss. I need to talk my husband into doing it with me.

  4. I have been walking around my treadmill ever since I moved it to the bedroom 8 months ago. I've yet to get on it. Like you, I have a lot of pain in one foot. I have lost 10 lbs. In the last month just by giving up bread and sweets. I still enjoy fruits, just no sugary desserts. I feel much better and seem to have fewer aches and pains and more energy. It was very hard the first few days, as I have a real chocolate addiction, but it's gotten easier. I hope you find something that works for you.

    1. Thanks for your comments Glenda. 10 lb. In a month is awesome. I need to make some diet changes too. I'm not a big bread person, but definitely a sugar addict.

  5. I'm trying to get out and walk more - a lot easier if the weather is nice. I would love to lose a bit of weight - even 7 pounds would be great. I've never tried the 5:2 diet. Just don't think I could stick to fasting!

    1. I'm not sure about fasting either, but as I understand it, you are allowed 500 calories on the fast days. I'll let you know if I try it.
